Zhongcheng "Bonnie" Xiong passed away on February 4, 2025, in Jefferson Hospital of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, after a courageous four-year battle with cancer. Born on June 6, 1956, in Wuhan, China. Zhongcheng grew up in China and earned her Bachelor’s Degree from Wuhan University in 1982. She eventually came to Lehigh University and earned a PhD in mathematics in 1989 under the guidance of the esteemed Professor Chuan-Chih Hsiung before taking a job at the University of Scranton.
Bonnie was a dedicated and esteemed educator. As the first ever Asian faculty member at the university, she served as a tenured math professor at the University of Scranton for an impressive 37 years.
Bonnie is survived by her mother, Zhang Yani; Xiong Zhongming; her sister, Xiong Zhongwei; her brother; her husband, Xiaohui Hu; her sons, Allen Hu and Kevin Hu; and several other family members. Bonnie’s legacy continues through her family and students, who deeply cherish her love, wisdom, and the values she instilled in them.
Service will be held at Jennings-Calvey Funeral Home on 111 Colburn Avenue in Clarks Summit, PA, 18411, from 9:00 am to 11:00 am on Saturday, February 15. Words of remembrance will be shared starting at 10:30am. Donations may be made in Bonnie’s name to the donor’s choice of charities.
