William C. Warner Jr., 83, of South Abington Twp., died Saturday in Allied Skilled Nursing Facility. He was the loving husband of 61 years, married to the former Joann Vonusa.
Born June 14, 1941, in Scranton, he was the son of the late William and Clare (Rafter) Warner. He was a graduate of St. Ann’s grade school, high school and he attended Penn State University.
He formerly was employed by Mercy Hospital, Scranton where he worked as an information technology technician for several years. He previously worked for Conrail and Erie Lackawanna Railroad, Allentown and the former Northeastern National Bank.
He was a member of the Church of St. Gregory Parish, Clarks Green. He cherished his family and enjoyed family gatherings that regularly end with a card game of poker. An avid sports fan, he was a Penn State fan and the New York Yankees and would watch the games regularly. He enjoyed gardening and sharing his tomatoes with others. His gentle smile will be sadly missed.
Bill’s family would like to express their appreciation for the kindness and care provided to him, especially to the doctors and the health care providers, Dr. Michael Gilhooley, Nicole and Maryann; Dr. Amber Sobuto, Gabbey and nurse practitioner Jenn; Allied Skilled Nursing, Unit 3 South, Giesinger CMC, ER staff and the Observation Unit.
Also surviving in addition to his loving wife are a daughter, Karen Warner, Myrtle Beach, S.C.; two sisters, Mary Ann Mataconis, Metairie, La.; and Peggy Moy (Grant), Bethesda, MD.; two grandsons, Matthew C. Warner, Clarks Summit; and Eric Kahler, Fla.; a granddaughter, Jessica Kahler, Ambridge; five great-grandchildren, Kole, Mikah, Brady, Breanna and Baylee; nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Christine Ann Warner; and a sister, Carol Meredick.
The funeral will be Friday with a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 3 p.m. at Church of St. Gregory, 330 N. Abington Road, Clarks Green, PA 18411. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family. The family will receive relatives and friends from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. at Jennings-Calvey Funeral and Cremation Services Inc., 111 Colburn Ave., Clarks Summit.
