Sheila Diane Fischer passed peacefully in her sleep surrounded by family on January 4, 2025, at the age of eighty-one. Born in Philadelphia, PA, on May 3, 1944, to Benson and Myrtle Norton, she was the youngest of three children. Her brothers were Ben and Gene Norton.
Sheila’s family moved to North Carolina to be near her mother’s relatives and settled in Wilmington, where she was raised. After graduating from high school she met her husband, William “Bill” Fischer Jr. They were married and raised their son, William, in Avenel, NJ, and later in Little Silver, NJ.
Sheila was employed at Precision Adhesives in Perth Amboy, NJ, where she worked as a Controller and Administrator for many years. During her time in New Jersey, Sheila enjoyed trips to Atlantic City, spending time at the beach, and dining at various restaurants, where she formed lasting friendships.
In 2015, Sheila relocated to Clarks Summit, PA, to be closer to family. Even as she transitioned to this new chapter, she continued to work for Precision Adhesives until her retirement at the age of eighty-one. This culminated in a remarkable career that spanned 40+ years.
Sheila became a cherished part of her Clarks Summit community, frequently visiting her favorite morning spot, The Silver Spoon. There, she was “adopted” by Roxanne Grizzanti and welcomed into an active group of friends known as The Golden Girls. Together, they attended events, explored local restaurants, and participated in various activities throughout Northeastern Pennsylvania. Sheila’s friends, co-workers, and acquaintances became a vibrant and meaningful part of her life.
Sheila loved going to Mohegan Sun, attending plays and events, and visiting her family in Greensboro, North Carolina, with whom she remained especially close. Her days were filled with happiness, work she enjoyed, and time spent with friends and family.
Sheila will be remembered for her warm spirit, her love of life, and the connections she made wherever she went. Her family, friends, and all who knew her will miss her dearly.
She is survived by her son William Fischer, III and his wife Vicki, her grandchildren William “Liam” and Mia. Sheila is also survived by her family in North Carolina which includes her sister-in-law Janet Norton, nephews Floyd Norton, her niece and husband Terry and Steve Gibson, and nephew and wife Tim and Alex Norton. In addition, she is survived by great-nephew Casey Markam, great niece and husband Kahli and Tyler Quate, great niece Tina Norton and great nephew Carl Norton along great-great nieces Charleigh Norton and Waverlee Quate.
We will be celebrating Sheila’s life at the Silver Spoon Diner Sunday, January 19th, at 4 PM. Services will be private. In lieu of flowers, we ask that a donation be made to Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia.
