Robert Coleman Merriman, 94 years, of South Abington Township, died on Monday, in Abington Manor. He was the husband of the late Jean (McAndrew) Merriman. The couple was married for 67 years.
Born October 22, 1929 in Scranton, Pennsylvania he was the son of the late Richard L. and Kathryn C. (Coleman) Merriman, Sr.
Robert honorably served his country in the United States Air Force and retired as a Colonel from the Civil Air Patrol having been an experienced pilot he had been in charge of flight training cadets and had flown several search and rescue missions in his plane for the civil air patrol. Robert worked for and retired from Tobyhanna Army Depot. Bob had a love for flying and owned his own piper cub airplane. He enjoyed taking his family and friends up in the sky. Bob also enjoyed his boyhood at the family cottage at Loomis lake in Hop Bottom.
He served as a deacon at the First Presbyterian Church. Robert was an avid reader and enjoyed watching football. He was a very sweet, loving man and his greatest love was his family.
Surviving is one son, Michael (Laurie) Merriman of Clarks Summit, and two daughters, Christine Darko of Glenburn and Patricia Merriman of Chinchilla; grandsons, John and Anthony Darko of Glenburn, Ryan (Kristine) Ksiezopolski of Chinchilla, and Michael Merriman Jr. of Clarks Summit; great-granddaughters, Sarah and Julie Ksiezopolski; nephews, nieces, cousins, and brother and sisters-in-law.
He was preceded in death by brother, Richard Lee Merriman and sons-in- law, John Darko and Tom McFadden, Jr. also several sisters and brothers-in- law.
A private cremation will take place at Jennings-Calvey Funeral and Cremation Services, Inc., Clarks Summit. Interment Abington Hills Cemetery, S. Abington Twp., PA.
