Robert Thomas Bamford 89, of Clarks Summit, passed away on Tuesday at Allied Services Hospice Center. His beloved wife, the former Dorothy L. Chuck, preceded him in death on August 31, 2024. The couple shared more than 61 years of marriage.

Born on September 17, 1935, in Scranton, he was the son of the late Thomas and Eleanor (Casey) Bamford. Robert graduated from Our Lady of Good Counsel High School in Newark, NJ, and went on to serve in the United States Navy from 1952 to 1972. He rose to the rank of Chief Petty Officer and served as a Leading Chief and Instructor at the Fleet Airborne Electronic Training Unit. During his distinguished naval career, he served in numerous operations, including Operation Sea Orbit with Nuclear Task Force One aboard the U.S.S. Enterprise.

Following his military service, Robert furthered his education at Middlesex County Community College. He later worked as a security specialist for several companies, including Wells Fargo and Bamberger’s Department Store. He then began a career with the U.S. Postal Service, where he served as a union representative before becoming a Senior Safety Specialist Manager, a role he held until his retirement. In retirement, Robert worked as a real estate agent with Nassar Real Estate and Classic Properties.

He is survived by two sons: Robert K., of Kearny, NJ; and Attorney Sean Bamford and his wife Rebecca, of Laytonville, MD; a daughter: Casey Hodakowski and her husband William Dallas; a sister: Sharon MacDonald of West Caldwell, NJ; a brother: Donald Richter of Watertown, MA; three granddaughters: Sara, Kaitlyn, and Mackenzie; two grandsons: Zachary and Colin; as well as several nieces and nephews.

A private funeral and blessing service will be held at the convenience of the family at Jennings-Calvey Funeral and Cremation Services, Inc., 111 Colburn Avenue, Clarks Summit. Interment with full military honors will follow at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville, PA.
