Richard Kenehan, 83, of Waverly died on Saturday, June 22 in Regional Hospital of Scranton surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of Shirley Ann (Hoban) Kenehan to whom he was married for 58 years.
Born February 13, 1941, in Scranton, Richard was the son of the late Michael Joseph and Thelma (Delmar) Kenehan.
He was a graduate of St. Paul’s High School, earned a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from the University of Scranton, a Master in Accounting from Binghamton University and went on to obtain his Certification in Public Accounting (CPA).
Richard retired from DII Group in Binghamton, NY where he held the position of Executive in Finance. Prior to that he was employed as Vice President at E.H. Titchener & Company. Richard was a golf enthusiast, holding memberships at Vestal Hills Country Club in Binghamton, NY and the Country Club of Scranton in Clarks Summit, PA where he later retired. He enjoyed traveling with his wife, exploring sites across the US and abroad for many years. Richard was a devout Catholic and a parishioner of the Church of St. Gregory.
Above all, Richard valued family. In addition to his wife are three daughters: Maura Kenehan (Scott McDonald), Erin Kenehan Thompson (Terry), Kathleen Kenehan Bednar, and five grandchildren: Morgan, Maggie, Liv, Trent and Emmet. Also surviving are brother Michael Kenehan (MaryEllen), three sisters: Jean Rodriguez (Bill), Nancy Joyce (Robert), Patricia Krause (Tom), and sister-in-law, Gayle Hoban. He was preceded in death by his sister, Marlene Scacchetti.
The funeral will take place on July 2nd at 10:00 am at the Church of St. Gregory, 330 N. Abington Road, Clarks Green, with a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated. The family will receive relatives and friends from 9:00 am to 10:00 am at the church. Burial will be private at Cathedral Cemetery, Scranton.
