Paul E. Sherlock 89 years, South Abington Township, died Tuesday after a short illness in the Wilkes-Barre VA Medical Center. The “love of his life” companion of 28 years the late Nannette Smith, died in 2018. Born December 26, 1935, in Scranton, Paul was the son of the late George and Catherine Sherlock
Paul was a lifelong Clarks Summit resident. He worked many jobs while growing up, including at a chicken farm, dairy delivery and at a nursery. He graduated from Clarks Summit High School in 1954.
While attending the University of Scranton, in 1957 Paul was drafted into the Army where he honorably served for two years. During this time, he advanced to the Airborne, Division where he was a paratrooper and parachuted out of airplanes.
He received his Bachelor of Science from the University of Scranton in 1973. Upon completing his Army service, he returned to his position at Eureka Printing. From 1954 until 1974 Paul was part of the management team and director of quality control at Eureka Printing Co. Dunmore.
Paul owned Sherlock Landscaping, Clarks Summit, operating the business from the 1990s until his death, helping many businesses and property owners with landscaping and snow removal. Also, from afar he assisted his brother George in his furniture business in Ft Scott, Kansas and operated it after George’s death.
Paul enjoyed dining in area restaurants and sharing good times with family, neighbors and friends. He was known as a "great tipper." He also loved fishing and hunting, going to the racetrack, local football and basketball games and especially going to the San Francisco Giants games and Napa Valley with Nannette, his sister Audrey and friends. He loved traveling around the country with Nannette. A Penn State fan, he was continually recognized for his family’s funding of the annual George W. Sherlock Student Scholarship in Agriculture. He was often a guest of the university enjoying football games and attending banquets. He was a great conversationalist with people of any age or background. Paul always had a positive attitude and a great sense of humor. He was always concerned that his companions were well taken care of and having a good time.
He was a member of Our Lady of the Snows Church in Clarks Summit. Paul was a good and caring friend to many. This honorable gentleman will be sadly missed.
