Neil D. Busti, 81, of South Abington Twp., was pronounced dead Saturday at Regional Hospital of Scranton upon arrival. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Mariann.
Born Feb. 1, 1942, in Brooklyn, N.Y., he was the son of the late Dominick and Anna (Conti) Busti. A graduate of Aviation High School, Queens, N.Y., he honorably served his country in the United States Navy as a machinist first class on the USS Lake Champlain CV-39. He resided in Fawn Lake Forest prior to moving to South Abington in 2017 and was formerly of Brooklyn, N.Y. He had been a maintenance supervisor for the New York City Transit Authority, where he was employed for over 25 years. Following retirement, in conjunction with his brother he worked as a roofer in their roofing business.
Neil was very active in the community following his retirement. He was a member of the Father Healy Chapter of Knights of Columbus, Council #797. He proudly served as a fourth degree, and while third degree was Grand Knight of Council #797. Neil had a passion for gardening, space exploration and science, mushroom picking, opera music, building Legos, patriotism, and loved spending time with family and his beloved cat, Milo.
Also surviving are two sons, Steven (Veronica), Wimberley, Texas; Anthony, South Abington Twp.; a daughter, Diana Lombardi (Lou); brother, Dominick, Kalamazoo, Mich.; two sisters, Elizabeth Dicarlo (Frank), Sebastian, Fla.; and Theresa O'Leary (Kevin), Brooklyn, N.Y.; three grandchildren, Nicolas, Aidan and Julian; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by brother, Ralph Busti; and sister, Virginia Busti-Nichols.
The funeral will be Wednesday with a blessing service at 2:30 p.m. by Monsignor Joseph G. Quinn, pastor of Our Lady of Snows Parish, Clarks Summit. The family will receive relatives and friends 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. at the Jennings-Calvey Funeral and Cremation Services Inc., 111 Colburn Ave., Clarks Summit, Pa. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family.
