Ellen “Maureen” (Gallagher) Helring, 87 years old, of South Abington Township, PA and Hyannis, MA, died on Thursday, in the Hospice of The Sacred Heart Inpatient Facility. She was the wife of the late John “Jack” Helring.
Born June 9, 1936 in Scranton, she was the daughter of the late Paul and Mary (Flannigan) Gallagher.
Maureen was a graduate of St. Patrick’s High School in Scranton. In 1960, she married Jack Helring, her high school sweetheart. They were happily married for 59 years until his death in 2019. Maureen and Jack loved to travel with family and friends. They especially enjoyed spending many happy times on Cape Cod. She was a parishioner of the Church of St. Gregory, Clarks Green.
Surviving are two daughters and sons-in-law: Maureen Helring McLaughlin and Jeffrey E. McLaughlin of Waverly Township, and Nancy Helring Meyers and Shawn D. Meyers of Chambersburg. She was preceded in death by her sister, Nancy Gallagher.
The funeral will be on Wednesday at the Church of St. Gregory, 330 N. Abington Rd., Clarks Green, with a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10:30 am. Interment Cathedral Cemetery, Scranton, PA. The family will receive relatives and friends on Wednesday from 9:00 am to 10:15 am at the church.
