Martin J. Dowling of Fleetville, died on Oct. 16 at Geisinger Community Medical Center, Scranton as a result of a fall, he was 80 years old. He was married to Mariellen (McLaughlin) Dowling for 51 years.
Born in Philadelphia, he was the son of the late Martin J. & Mary Hancock Dowling. The family later moved to Quakertown.
Marty was a graduate of Allentown Central Catholic High School. He graduated from the University of Scranton with a degree in Physics and Drexel University with a degree in General Studies. He later took classes from Villanova University to become a Patent Agent.
Marty proudly served his country in the US Navy aboard the destroyer, the US Conway.
Marty began his career in Philadelphia at the Frankford Arsenal. He also worked at Franklin Institute Research Center, Liberty Technologies, and Boeing. His final job was at Interdigital Communications in King of Prussia where he was Senior Engineer and Patent Agent. He was the holder of numerous patents.
Marty & Mariellen raised their family in Plymouth Meeting. The couple retired to Baylors Lake in 2012 where they enjoyed the beauty of the lake and its surroundings.
Marty loved music and was a talented pianist and guitarist. He enjoyed his walks at the lake, Lackawanna Park, and Trolley Trail, where he led wildflower tours.
In addition to his wife, he survived by two sons, Patrick (Lauren), Willow Grove, and Rory, Fleetville, and daughter, Colleen M. (Kevin Smestad) Henniker, NH. He was also loving Pop to grandchildren Sean and Elizabeth and brother to Patricia Dowling, Scranton.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at The Church of St. Gregory, Clarks Green on Friday, Oct. 25 at 11 AM with visitation from 9:00 to 10:45. Interment will take place at St. Isidore Cemetery, Quakertown at a later date.
