Marilyn Shawger

Marilyn Simes Shawger 82 years, of Fenwick Island, De formerly of Clarks Summit passed away on Friday, May 17, 2013, after an illness. She was the wife of the late Rev. George W. Shawger, a United Methodist minister.

Born December 29, 1930 in Bethlehem, she was the daughter of the late Richard V. and Mary Jane Johns Simes.

Marilyn was educated in the Dunmore schools and was an honor graduate of Penn State University. She lived in Clarks Summit over 20 years and wintered in Dunedin, Florida where she then took up residence for 20 years. She moved to Fenwick Island, DE in 2007 to be with her daughter and her family. She had been employed by Capital Records and the International Correspondence School, Scranton, as a Director.

Marilyn was an avid reader, talented knitter and fantastic cook. She enjoyed walking on the beach and spending time with her friends. She was a devoted wife and mother who enjoyed traveling with her family and the happy times spent at their retreat location in Montrose with their many friends. She idolized her granddaughters and was so very proud of their involvement and activities in dance performance and sporting events.

Surviving is her daughter and caregiver Kimberly Ratzel and husband Billy, with whom she resided, her cherished granddaughters, Kathryn Ratzel and companion Jason Powell of Delmar, MD, Sarah Lyn Ratzel of Dewey Beach, DE, sister Gwendolyn Bowles of Shreveport, LA and devoted friend Audrey Thomas of South Abington Twp.

There will be a Celebration of her Life on Saturday, June 15th from the Chinchilla United Methodist Church, 411 Layton Road, Clarks Summit, with services at 10:00 am by Rev, James Wert. Interment Abington Hills Cemetery, South Abington Twp.
