Mariellen (O'Boyle) Gardner went to be with our Lord Tuesday at the age of 84. She was at home surrounded by her loving family.
Born Feb. 20, 1932, in Scranton, she was the daughter of the late John and Mildred (Ford) O'Boyle. As a proud graduate of Central High School, class of 1950, she served on several reunion committees. She was also a graduate of Lackawanna Junior College. She was employed as an administrative assistant at the Trane Co., Corrugated Boxes and Family Services of Lackawanna County.
First and foremost, her greatest pride was her role as a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She raised her family in Clarks Green, and was very involved in all of her children's activities, especially volunteering at Our Lady of Peace School in the hot lunch program and the library. She had a great compassion for all animals and passed that love on to her children. Mariellen was a faithful member of St. Gregory's Church and was one of the original members of this parish. She enjoyed volunteering at Mercy Hospice and then Commonwealth Hospice.
She is survived by one son, Thomas Gardner (Virginia), Muncy; three daughters, Chrissy Jacoby (Ivan), Clarks Summit; Terri Polacca Pridgen (Michael), Mojave, Calif.; Shirley Gardner (Robert G. Brown), Factoryville; a brother, John O'Boyle (Dorothy), Bethlehem; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John M. Gardner Jr.; and their son, John M. Gardner III.
The family would like to thank the AseraCare Team and all the wonderful caregivers that made it possible for her to stay at home and find peace and comfort in her final days.
The funeral will be Monday from the Church of St. Gregory, 330 N. Abington Road, Clarks Green, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. to be celebrated by Father John M. Lapera, followed by a Christian Burial at Abington Hills Cemetery, South Abington Twp. The family will receive relatives and friends Sunday from 3 to 6 p.m. at the Jennings-Calvey Funeral Home, 111 Colburn Ave., Clarks Summit.
Memorial contributions may be made to AseraCare Hospice, 1212 S. Abington Road, Clarks Summit, PA 18411, or Griffin Pond Animal Shelter, 967 Griffin Pond Road, Clarks Summit, PA 18411.
