Marian E. Borsuk, 69, Clarks Summit, died Friday at home after an illness. Born July 24, 1945 in Scranton, she was the daughter of the late Stanley and Julia (Perosh) Borsuk.A 1963 graduate of Cathedral High School, she received her Bachelor of Arts in English and secondary education from Marywood University. Continuing her studies, her master's degree in American history and politics was from the University of Scranton. Marian later continued her education at the University of Scranton and received a second bachelor's degree in nursing and her master's degree in nursing from Georgetown University, Washington, D.C.Marian's professional career began as personal secretary to the Bishop of Scranton. She was staff nurse at Mercy Hospital Oncology Unit. She worked at the Jewish home as charge nurse and later supervisor of nursing. She was lecturer in the Nursing Home Administrators Certificate Program at the University of Scranton. She had served on the adjunct faculty, the University of Scranton Department of Sociology/Gerontology. She was a health care coordinator, Villa Saint Joseph, Scranton, and the Jesuit Residence at Campion Hall of the University of Scranton. She served as a faculty member for Palliative Care, Scranton Temple Residency Program. Prior to retirement, Marian was a case manager, VNA Hospice of Lackawanna County, where she was a nurse practitioner.Throughout her distinguished career, Marian had received many academic honors and was a member of multiple educational and professional organizations and societies. A member of Leadership Lackawanna, class of 1987, Marian was a former member of the board of directors, Telespond Senior Services Inc. and was a volunteer with the American Red Cross.She was a faithful member of St. Peter's Cathedral Parish, where she had served as coordinator of Pontifical Ceremonies for the Diocese of Scranton for over 50 years. She served as a lector and member of the Parish Pastoral Council and the Parish Liturgical Committee at the Cathedral.Surviving are cousins, including the Rev. Charles P. Connor, Emmitsburg, Md. The funeral will be Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. with a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Peter's Cathedral, 315 Wyoming Avenue, Scranton, to be celebrated by the Most Reverend James C. Timlin, D.D, Emeritus Bishop of Scranton. Interment, St. Mary's Byzantine Cemetery, Scranton.Memorial contributions may be made to St. Peter's Cathedral Parish, 315 Wyoming Avenue, PA 18503.Arrangements are being made by at the Jennings-Calvey Funeral and Cremation Service Inc., 111 Colburn Avenue, Clarks Summit, PA 18411.
