Louis (Lou) Martin Vertucci, 88, Clarks Summit, formerly of Pocono Lake, PA and Parsippany, NJ, died Wednesday, with family at his bedside at Clarks Summit Senior Living. He was the loving husband of 62 years married to Irene (Subklewe) Vertucci.
Born on September 20, 1933 in Jersey City, NJ, he was the son of the late Angelo and Margaret (Piccini) Vertucci.
Lou was a graduate of Ferris High School, Jersey City, NJ. He was proud to have served honorably in the US Army during the Korean War. Lou was always a reliable person with strong work ethics. He was a head pressman for many years, enjoying his work at Hudson County News, NJ and also at the Meadowlands, NJ.
Lou was an avid New York Giants fan and talked football all year long. He loved spending time with his family and especially enjoyed when everyone was together in one place. He was a creature of habit, known on Sundays to attend mass, get the paper, stop at the bakery for rolls and donuts, and then watch the game. Lou enjoyed driving and finding alternative routes; even knowing most of the roads, he was fondly referred to as ‘U-ie Louie.’ Lou and his wife were well-traveled, having been to Ireland, England, Italy in addition to taking many trips to Maine and out west. Lou was also fond of playing slots at the casinos.
Also surviving are three sons: Michael, of Netcong, NJ; Mark and his wife, Cynthia, of Lewes, DE; Matthew and his wife, Shayla, of Bloomsburg, PA; two daughters: Mary Mangino and her husband, John Mangino of Covington Twp., PA; Marissa Moguin and her husband, Mark Moguin, of Denville, NJ; a sister: Florence Frank, of Princeton, NJ; nine grandchildren, two great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Lou was preceded in death by two sisters: Rose “Sandra” Bellizzi, and Joann Tulloch.
The funeral will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Jennings-Calvey Funeral and Cremation Service, Inc., 111 Colburn Avenue, Clarks Summit, PA 18411with a blessing service by Msgr. Michael J. Delaney, pastor, Our Lady of The Snows Parish, Clarks Summit. Interment with full military honors will be at St. Catherine's Cemetery, Moscow, PA. The family will receive relatives and friends Monday from 10 a.m.-11 a.m. at the Jennings-Calvey Funeral and Cremation Service, Inc., 111 Colburn Avenue, Clarks Summit, PA 18411. The family is requesting for visitors to wear masks. Memorial Contributions may be made to St. Jude's Children Research Hospital, P.O. Box 50, Memphis, TN 38101-9929
