Karen Puzycki Greco, Waverly Township, lost her courageous battle against cancer on Monday, July 22, at Hospice of the Sacred Heart, Dunmore.
Born on July 3, 1964, in Bethesda, Maryland, Karen was the daughter of the late Kenneth J. and Mary Anne Slivinski Puzycki. Karen was a 1982 graduate and Salutatorian of Bishop Klonowski High School and a 1988 graduate of the University of Scranton where she earned a B.S.N. She was employed by Moses Taylor Hospital as a Registered Nurse in the Intensive Care Unit, she took great pride in being a Nursing Instructor at the University of Scranton and she was currently employed by CGS (a subsidiary of Blue Cross / Blue Shield of South Carolina) as a Case Manager/Nurse Educator in Provider Relations.
She was a member of Our Lady of Snows Church, Clarks Summit.
Karen was an avid gardener who enjoyed tending to her plants and flowers which would often become the table centerpiece for many summer holiday barbecues. She loved collecting and learning about antiques; she was an animal lover and enjoyed taking care of her horses and pets; she was a wonderful cook and baker who enjoyed experimenting with new recipes and polishing up old family ones. In addition, she was a die-hard Steelers fan and more than happy to remind everyone of their six Super Bowl rings. She loved to travel and particularly looked forward to her yearly vacations to Martha’s Vineyard. Karen’s greatest enjoyment was simply spending time with her wonderful circle of close-knit friends. Karen was also a Member of the Laurel Garden Club, the Churchill Society, the Abington Historical Society, Lackawanna Historical Society, and the Friends of the Abington Community Library. Karen will be sorely missed by all that knew her.
Surviving is her beloved life partner, Dr. Ernie Julius, her sister, Maria A. Puzycki, Lewes, Delaware and several cousins. She was preceded in death by maternal grandparents, William and Julia Slivinski, paternal grandparents, Joseph and Thelma Oberwise Puzycki, an aunt, Marlene Rochna and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
The funeral will take place on Tuesday, July 30, beginning at the Jennings Calvey Funeral and Cremation Services with a visitation from 8:30-9:30am at 111 Colburn Avenue, Clarks Summit. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10 o’clock a.m. at Our Lady of Snows Church, 301 S. State Street, Clarks Summit. Internment will take place at St. Mary Our Lady of Czestochowa Cemetery, Greenwood section of Moosic.
A special thank you is extended to Dr. Martin Hyzinski and his exceptional staff.
