Geraldine “Jerry” Chermak Miller, 84, of Clarks Summit, died Monday in Allied Skilled Nursing Facility. She was the widow of the late David Miller, who died Dec. 21, 2018. The couple had been married more than 61 years.
Jerry was born Feb. 22, 1938, in Scranton, and was the daughter of the late Joseph T. and Lena (Funghi) Chermak. She was a 1956 graduate of Abington Heights High School, where she excelled in athletics playing field hockey, having been awarded a letter for her achievements and was a member of the girls basketball team. She was a member of the drama club and was proud to have performed the lead role in "Arsenic and Old Lace."
An ambitious and organized person with a good work ethic, she worked at her family’s car dealership, Chermak’s, with her father and brother until the time of her father’s death in 1988. She was administrative assistant for Fred Gabriel Building Contractor and a receptionist at John Lavelle Real Estate. Her professional career included serving as an administrative supervisor and bookkeeper for area businesses including Paul Sherlock Landscaping, Clarks Summit.
She was a parishioner of Our Lady of the Snows Church, Clarks Summit. A sports enthusiast, she was an avid New York Yankees fan. She enjoyed her pleasurable trips to the casinos in Atlantic City and locally, Mohegan Sun. She will be sadly missed.
The family would like thank her cousins who were her caregivers, Polly Grindel and Betsy Chermak, also care providers, Gail, Donna and Anna, for their compassionate care and Allied Hospice for their kindness. A sincere appreciation with much gratitude is extended to Jerry’s loving brother, Joseph, for all of the care and help he provided to his sister.
Also surviving are a daughter, Denise Martenson, Clarks Summit; a grandson, Kevin Martenson, Anaheim, Calif.; brother, Joseph F. (Carol) Chermak, Old Forge; and three nephews, Commissioner Christopher Chermak, (Kasey), Dalton, Tim Chermak (Wendy), Maryland, Matthew Chermak, Dalton; two great-nephews, Collin (Marci) Clarks Summit, and Michael Chermak, Dalton; five great-nieces, Christina LaCoe and Emily, Madison, Laci and Logan; a great-great-nephew, Aidan Chermak.
Funeral service will be private at the convenience of the family with interment in Hickory Grove Cemetery, Waverly.
