Jeffrey Jermyn Fleming, 72, Dalton, passed away at home surrounded by family after a courageous battle with cancer. His loving wife of 48 years is the former Nancy Davis.
Born May 5, 1952 in Scranton, he was the son of the late James and Susan (Jermyn) Fleming II. A lifelong resident of Dalton, he was a graduate of Our Lady of Peace, Clarks Green, attended Cutler Academy, Craftsbury, VT and graduated from Lackawanna Trail High School in 1972. He honorably served in the Navy on the USS Saratoga during the Vietnam War, followed by a distinguished 37-year career with the railroad. Renowned for his commitment to community service, Jeffrey was a key figure in the development of the Countryside Conservancy Trolley Trail in the Abingtons. He worked tirelessly, pouring his heart and soul into its creation and preservation. His long-term stewardship has ensured the trail will remain a cherished community space for generations to come.
Jeffrey’s love for the outdoors extended to his passion for skiing. He spent 17 years as a member of the Elk Mountain Ski Patrol, sharing his expertise and joy for the sport with his family and friends. His generosity and commitment to serving others were a defining aspect of his character. Jeff knew everyone and everyone knew Jeff and he was a friend to all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
Family meant everything to Jeff, and he cherished spending time with his wife, children, and dog Riley, taking hikes, biking, skiing, and kayaking. Also surviving are his son, Jeffrey Fleming Jr. (Andrea) of Tunkhannock; twin daughters, Jenny Crowley (Brendan) of Baltimore, MD, and Kaitlin Fleming (Phil Stark) of Dalton; three brothers, James (Amy) of Glenburn, Mark (Barbara) of Greenland, NH, and Ned (Wendy) of Jupiter, FL; three sisters, Helen Haydon (Richard) of Tequesta, FL, Faith Fleming of Lake Sheridan, and Nancy Brandi (Tim) of Wilton, NY; and three granddaughters, Natalie Fleming of Tunkhannock, Isabella Crowley of Baltimore, MD, and Emma Crowley of Baltimore, MD, and a dear family friend, Patricia Ketchur of Baltimore, MD.
The funeral will be Tuesday with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10am from Our Lady of the Abingtons, 700 West Main Street, Dalton, to be celebrated by Rev. Arbogaste Satoun.
