Jean Ann (Palla) Russell, 84, formerly of Clarks Summit, PA died on Sunday in Philadelphia after a brief illness. She was the wife of the late James Henry Russell. The couple was married on March 13, 1960.
Born April 24, 1938 in Scranton, PA, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Ethel Palla. She graduated from West Scranton High School before working for Giant Markets for many years. Her true calling was mother and grandmother. Her family was most important to her, and she cared for each of them through her last days. She was a strong woman who led her family through many challenges, laughing all the way.
Jean was a dedicated fan of professional sports including the Philadelphia Phillies and 76ers but always most looked forward to spending time with family on Sundays watching the New York Giants and Philadelphia Eagles. She was an avid lover of travel, adventure and a lucky scratch-off ticket or slot machine.
Surviving are two sons, James Russell (Jacqueline) of Allentown, and David Russell (Megan) of Philadelphia, one daughter, Jennifer Rogal of Huntington, WV; grandsons, Kyle Russell, Robert Sheehan, and Jeffrey Russell; granddaughters, Danielle Russell, Jamie and Rachel Rogal, Brianna Sheehan and Elizabeth Russell; great-granddaughters, Claire Yoder and Lillian Russell.
She was preceded in death by son, Jeffrey Russell and grandson, Thomas Russell, sisters Margaret and Violet, brothers Julius, Edward, John, and Joseph. She was the last of her generation.
A private cremation will take place at Jennings-Calvey Funeral and Cremation Services, Inc., 111 Colburn Ave, Clarks Summit and a celebration of life will be held at a later date with an interment in Cathedral Cemetery, Scranton.
