Jean Michael Rees, 91, formerly of Waverly, died on Tuesday 4/18/2023 at The Pines Senior Living in Clarks Summit Pa. surrounded by her loving family. She was the wife of William G. Rees to whom she was married for over 72 years.
Born July 9, 1931 in Scranton, PA she was the daughter of the late Robert D Michael and Aileta (Brainard) Michael Vickery. She was a graduate of Clarks Summit and Clarks Green joint schools and attended Edgewood Park Jr. College and Keystone College.
“Mike” as she was affectionately known to her family and friends was a founder and charter member of the Abington Business and Professional Association. She was the longtime owner and operator of the Holly Lane Shop in Clarks Summit. She was a past president of the Junior League of Scranton. Active in her community she was a founding member and treasurer of the Society for the Preservation of the Tripp Family Homestead, Voluntary Action Committee, Day Nursery Association, Planned Parenthood of Lackawanna County, League of Women Voters, Zoological Society of Scranton, Abington Junior Women’s Club, Waverly Community Club, Rotary Club of the Abington’s as well as a girl scout leader.
Surviving in addition to her loving husband are her daughters: Christiana Rees Tomlinson and husband Gary of St. Johnsbury Vt.; Suzanne Rees Kaufman and husband Robert C. II of Union Dale Pa.; Grandchildren Alexa Tomlinson Airoldi and husband Aaron of St. Johnsbury Vt.; Erin Tomlinson Pritchard of Livingston Mt.; Robert C Kaufman III of Olyphant Pa.; Cassandra Kaufman of Blakeslee Pa.; Great Grandchildren Piper and Boone Airoldi of St. Johnsbury Vt.; Gunnarson Pritchard of Livingston Mt.; Liam Heafield of Corning Ny.; Conner Servercool of Germany; Great grandchild Zechariah Severcool along with nieces, nephews and cousins.
The family would like to express their deep appreciation to the staff at the Pines Senior Living for their many acts of kindness especially during her final days.
A very special thank you to her “son” Michael Buranich for his longtime devotion and healing hands and to Terry O’Hara for many years of compassionate care and friendship.
The funeral will take place on Thursday at 4pm at Jennings-Calvey Funeral and Cremation Services, Inc., 111 Colburn Avenue, Clarks Summit. The family will receive relatives and friends from 2-4pm at the funeral home. Interment will be private.
