James Fanning, Jr

James P. Fanning, Jr., 64, of Clarks Summit, died Sunday in Regional Hospital after a long fight with health problems.  He was the husband of Debbie (Soloski) Fanning.

Born July 8, 1953 in Scranton, Pennsylvania, Jim was the son of the late James P. and the late Patricia A. (Moran) Fanning, Sr. He graduated from West Catholic High School in 1972 and continued his education at the University of Scranton.

Jim worked at various capacities to include work as a funeral associate for many Scranton area funeral homes which he continued through his professional career as a firefighter. He worked for the City of Scranton Fire Company Engine 7 as a Lieutenant and was a member of the Firefighters Union Local 60. Jim was also a Past Master of the Hyde Park Lodge No. 339 F & AM, a member of the Clarks Summit Fire Company, VFW Post 4909 in Dupont, VFW Post 7069 in Clarks Summit and a member of the American Ukrainian Vets Association in Scranton.

Jim loved to travel with his wife Debbie to various locations including the Caribbean, Florida and day trips over weekends. He was an avid sports fan and enjoyed watching his teams the Yankees, Chiefs and Notre Dame Fighting Irish and truly enjoyed going to games. Jim also enjoyed watching westerns on TV and his breakfast meetings with his friends at Sharon's Place.

Surviving in addition to his wife Debbie are his children: Jennifer Gardner, Erin Fanning, Ellen Neri, and James P. Fanning III; step children: Chad and Brittany Evans; 3 grandchildren, 1 step grandchild and a sister: Kathleen Schneider.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Patrick J. Fanning.

The funeral will be Thursday at 9:30 am from Our Lady of the Snows, 301 South State Street, Clarks Summit, PA, with services by Msgr.  Joseph G. Quinn.  Interment will be private at the convenience of the family. The family will receive relatives and friends Wednesday from 4-7 at the Jennings-Calvey Funeral and Cremation Service, Inc., 111 Colburn Avenue, Clarks Summit, PA 18411. A Masonic service will be conducted at 6:30 p.m.
