Gilda Mitchell

Gilda Mitchell 92, of South Abington Township died on Tuesday, March 11, in Willowbrook Place. She was the wife of the late Dominick Mitchell Sr. who died in 2019. Born May 29, 1932, in Schenectady, NY, Gilda was the daughter of the late Michael and Lucy Renzi.

Gilda was a retired homemaker that loved to spend her time collecting her beloved antiques and arranging them in her home. Gilda loved shopping in a thrift or antique store and finding a new treasure that she could add to her collection. She had a knack for finding a diamond in the rough and loved telling the story behind her chase. After her husband’s passing, she found her happy place at Willowbrook Place where she enjoyed decorating her room and spending time with her new friends (residents and staff) at the facility. She was thrilled when she entered a Willowbrook recipe contest, and her hot dog and chili sauce recipe won her a first-place award that she proudly hung in her room. She was particularly fond of Tricia, the lead nurse at Willowbrook, who provided her with peace of mind and trusted in her advice and patient care. Tricia, along with her family doctor, Dr. Michael Kondash, were two people she most trusted along with her family. And, two lady friends from Willowbrook, Rita and Anita were two people that held a special place in her heart.

Also surviving are a son Dominick Mitchell, Jr. and wife, Christine Mitchell, South Abington Twp.; grandson Dominick Louis Mitchell and wife Jessica; granddaughter, Heather Mitchell and partner Sean Gilhooley; sister, Dolores Bartlette and husband Joseph; brother, Michael Renzi and wife, Mary Ann.

She was preceded in death by her brothers, Kazimer Renzi, Maxie Renzi, Carmen Renzi, and sisters, Gloria Annis and Mary Reynolds.

A private memorial service will be scheduled in the spring for the family in Fairview Memorial Park, Elmhurst Twp.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, heart.org.
