Gerard "Jerry" Tomko, 68, of Hatboro, PA (formerly Dunmore), died peacefully on Sunday, August 14th at his home surrounded by his loving family. Born July 29, 1954, in Scranton, son of the late Joseph and Frances (D'Arienzo) Tomko, Sr., Jerry was a 1972 graduate of Dunmore High School and a 1974 graduate of Keystone College.
Jerry’s passion was photography. He owned his studio for 37 years, photographing over 50 weddings a year. His boundless artistic talent led him to win numerous national and international awards for his work and he obtained the highest honors as a degreed Master Craftsman Photographer.
Jerry cherished his time growing up in Dunmore surrounded by his family that meant everything to him and was devoted to his wife, children, and grandchildren. He had the biggest heart and would do anything for anyone, but what set him apart from the rest was his larger than life personality. You knew when Jerry walked into a room as he had a boisterous laugh and immediately made you feel welcome. His kindness, laugh, and warmth will be missed by many.
Surviving are his loving and devoted family: wife of 46 years, Margaret "Peggy" (Ross) Tomko of Hatboro, PA (formerly Clarks Summit); children: Amy (Tomko) Magazu (Joseph Sr.) of West Deptford, NJ and Brian Tomko (Olivia) of Gilbertsville, PA; four beautiful grandchildren: Charlie, Natalie, and Paige Tomko and Joseph Magazu, Jr; brother: Joseph S. Tomko, Jr. of Dunmore; nephew, Kyle and niece, Anne Marie Tomko.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Anthony Tomko, and uncle, Phillip D’Arienzo.
The funeral will be held on Saturday, August 27th at 10am from Saint Mary of Mount Carmel Church, 322 Chestnut St, Dunmore, PA with a Mass of Christian Burial. The family will receive relatives and friends from 9 – 10am at the church prior to Mass. Interment will be private.
