Gail (Hallock) Van Horn, 97, a longtime resident of Clarks Green, died on Thursday in The Pines Senior Living. She was the wife of the late Robert E. Van Horn who died in 2001.
Born August 12, 1924 in Scranton, Gail was the daughter of the late James Earl and Madge (Stone) Hallock.
Gail graduated from Marywood University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Education and worked for Abington Heights High School as a Home Economics teacher. She was a former member of the Country Club of Scranton and enjoyed golfing in their ladies league. Gail was also a member of the Scranton Canoe Club, Glen Oak Country Club and the Waverly Country Club where she enjoyed playing bridge. She loved volunteering her time at Allied Services and at the Clarks Summit First Presbyterian Church.
The family would like to extend their thanks to the staff at The Pines, Allied Hospice, and for their compassionate care and a special thank you to Barb Holgate who was Gail’s guardian angel.
Surviving is one son: Christian Van Horn and wife Jane of Dalton, one daughter: Martha Van Horn Pate of Clarks Summit, grandchildren, Stoney Van Horn and wife Amy of Bryn Mawr, Lucy Van Horn of Waverly, Becky and Danny Pate of Clarks Summit; great grandchildren, Christian Stone Van Horn, III and Palmer Coyne Van Horn; several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a brother James Earl Hallock, Jr., and cousin Marilyn Dyer.
The funeral will take place on Wednesday at 11am at First Presbyterian Church, 300 School Street, Clarks Summit, PA with services by Rev. William G. Carter, pastor. Interment will follow at Hickory Grove Cemetery, Waverly Township. The family will receive relatives and friends from 10 - 11 at the church.
