Francis “Rich” J. Dougherty 75, Clarks Summit, died Tuesday, at The Jewish Home of Scranton. He was a loving husband of 52 years, married to Bernadette (Quinn).
Born December 19, 1947 in Philadelphia, he was the son of the late Joseph and Anna (Rouse) Dougherty. He was a graduate of Roman Catholic High School, Philadelphia and Lackawanna College. He was an Army veteran who proudly served his country while stationed in South Korea during the Vietnam War. He had been employed for over 30 years at ABF Freight Systems, Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, where he worked as a branch manager and an account executive in sales. He was a faithful member of The Church of St. Gregory, Clarks Green.
He is best known for his devotion as “Dad” and “Pop Pop”. He never missed a special event for his children and grandchildren. He was humble, selfless, caring, kind, generous, and dependable, with the patience of a saint. He was a man who never complained. He loved animals, especially all of the family dogs. He was a devout Catholic and took great pride in his faith. He was well liked and respected in the transportation industry. Throughout his career he was recognized as a top performer at various national conferences.
Also surviving is a son: Richard, Clarks Summit. Four daughters: Mary Davison and husband Brian, Newton Township; Patty Pivirotto and husband James, South Abington Township, Annie and husband Dr. Andrew Clark, Fogelsville; and Bernadette Plastow, Old Forge. Ten grandchildren: Maura, Anna, Joseph and Thomas Pivirotto; Russell, Megan, Benjamin and June Clark; Grace and Quinn Davison.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Joseph Dougherty, and seven sisters: Dorothy Dougherty, Anna Urban, Florence Kirlin, Jane Duffin, Catherine Fluck, Grace Holsworth, and Mary Mondella.
The funeral will be Monday, March 27th, 2023, with a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated by Fr. John M. Lapera, at 12:00 pm at The Church Of St. Gregory, 330 North Abington Road, Clarks Green, Interment Cathedral Cemetery. The family will receive relatives and friends Sunday from 3 – 6 pm at the
Jennings-Calvey Funeral and Cremation Service, Inc., 111 Colburn Avenue, Clarks Summit, PA 18411. Memorial Contributions may be made to The Church Of St. Gregory.
