Elizabeth "Betty" (Briel) Schumacher 91 years, Clarks Summit, died on Tuesday, in Geisinger Community Medical Center.  She was the wife of the late George Gilbert Schumacher who died in 2008. 

Born May 21, 1932 in Scranton, she was the daughter of the late Harry and Marie (Parli) Briel. She graduated from St. Mary’s High School in Scranton.

6 children, 16 grandchildren, 11 great grand children, and 1 great great grand child, all because of what you helped to create. You wielded life, and contributed in creating an army of lineage. Your fierce love, strong will, and faith brought us all such beautiful lives. We all wouldn’t be here without you. 91 years you lived; 91 years of miracles, heart breaks and cycles. You were there for all of it. You have been ready to run into the arms of the love of your life and embrace your son. Thank you isn’t enough for all that you have given. You gave us the best family. Gute Nacht Fafa.

Surviving are five daughters: Marie (Mark) Genuario of Collegeville, Elaine (Jay) Smith of Clarks Summit, Karen (John) Adams of Pensacola, FL, Elizabeth "Betsey" (Richard) D'Amato of Leland, NC and Jennifer (Brian) McKinley of Simpsonville, SC,; daughter-in-law, Jeanne Schumacher; one sister: Dorothy Evans of Scranton;, 16 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, 1 great, great grandson, many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by son, George Schumacher, step grandson, Jonathan Adams, brothers, Joseph and Skip Briel, and sister, Sister Marie Elise, SCC.

The funeral will take place on Monday at 9:30 am from Our Lady of the Snows Church, 301 South State Street, Clarks Summit, with a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated by Msgr. Joseph G. Quinn, pastor. Interment Dunmore Cemetery, Dunmore.  The family will receive relatives and friends Sunday from 2-4pm at Jennings-Calvey Funeral and Cremation Services, Inc., 111 Colburn Avenue, Clarks Summit.
