Dr. John Fahey

Dr. John L. Fahey, of Clarks Green, died on Feb. 7, 2018. His wife of 54 years is Dr. Marigrace Corcoran Fahey.
Dr. Fahey was born in Scranton on Sept. 8, 1928, the son of the late John L. and Mary Fadden Fahey. He graduated from St. Patrick's High School in Olyphant in 1946 and upon graduation served in the Army of Occupation in Japan. After his military service, Dr. Fahey attended the University of Scranton and graduated from Georgetown Medical School in 1955. This was followed by an internship at Mercy Hospital, Baltimore, Md., from 1955-1956; a residency in internal medicine at DC General Hospital from 1956-1957; he then was an assistant resident in medicine from 1957-1958 and a fellow in medicine and from 1958-1959 at Georgetown University Medical Center, as well as house staff at Georgetown Hospital Department of Medicine from 1958-1959. He was a clinical fellow in medicine at Georgetown Medical Center from 1959-1960.
Following his training, Dr. Fahey practiced at the City of Hope Medical Center from 1960-1962 and was then a partner of Dr. Louis Murphy in private practice in Scranton from 1962-1966. Subsequent to this, Dr. Fahey practiced tertiary hematology for 34 years at the City of Hope National Medical Center in Duarte, Calif., until his retirement in 1991 as associate director of the Department of Hematology and Bone Marrow Transplants.
Dr. Fahey was a diplomate of the American Board of Internal Medicine in Hematology and a fellow of the International Society of Hematology.
In retirement, Dr. Fahey enjoyed skiing in Vail, golfing, military history, traveling, Broadway theater and playing his piano featuring classical music, Cole Porter and Gershwin.
The family would like to express gratitude to all of the staff at the Hospice of the Sacred Heart and to all the caregivers at the Loving Angels Nurse Registry for all their compassionate care and concern.
In addition to his wife, Dr. Fahey is survived by his children, Michael J. Fahey and his wife, Tammy, in Oceanside, Calif.; and his daughter, Kate Fahey Hatten and husband, Gregory, in Colorado Springs, Colo.; five grandchildren, Dustin, Alexandra, and Arran Fahey and Robert Elliott and Mary Elizabeth Hatten; his brothers-in-law, James F. Corcoran and wife, Cathy, of Richmond, Va.; and Colonel (ret.) Kevin M. Corcoran and wife, Bridget, of Atlanta, Ga.; and numerous cousins.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Church of St. Gregory, 330 N. Abington Road, Clarks Green , to be celebrated by the Rev. John M. Lapera. Interment, Cathedral Cemetery.
The family will receive relatives and friends Monday from 10 to 10:45 a.m. at the church.
