Douglas Edwin Davey, 70, Clarks Summit, died Monday in Geisinger Community Medical Center due to complications from diabetes.
Born in Montclair, N.J., he was the son of the late Edwin and Margaret (Kristensen) Davey. He grew up in Nutley N.J. and graduated from Nutley High School. Over the years he was a self-employed contractor working in the music, home improvement and livery service businesses. In 1994, he moved to Clarks Summit and took on his favorite and most important role, stay-at-home dad to his son. He chaperoned class trips, coached Little League and led scout activities.
A handy man at heart, he could fix almost anything and was always willing to share his skills. He was an avid New York Giants and Mets fan who, prior to his illness, would never miss a game. He could strike up a conversation with anyone and could make a friend wherever he went.
He is survived by his son, Matthew Davey, Clarks Summit; and his former wife, Debra Trickel, Clarks Summit. He was preceded in death by a sister, Georgann Davey.
Services will be private. Memorial contributions can be made to Griffin Pond Animal Shelter, 967 Griffin Pond Road, Clarks Summit, PA 18411 or to a charity of one’s choice.
