Charles J. Lipinski, Ph.D. 84, Clarks Summit, died Sunday, in Allied Skilled Nursing Facility, Scranton. His wife of 57 years was the former Doris A. Zelenski.
Born December 28, 1939 in Duryea, he was the son of the late Joseph and Vivian (Pierkowski) Lipinski. He was a graduate of Holy Rosary High School, Scranton and received a bachelor of science in finance from the University of Scranton and furthered his studies at Nova University, earning a doctorate in finance. Charles honorably served in the US Army, stationed for two years in France.
He was a member of Our Lady of the Snows Church, Clarks Summit and a long-time member of Elk View Country Club where he enjoyed golfing.
His professional finance career included working at Kane Warehouse, International Correspondence School, Scranton, Emery Air Freight and Metz Enterprises. He then went on to teach for the business department at Marywood University, Scranton. He was a full-time professor and later part time also teaching on line courses at Misericordia University.
Charles enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, especially in Ocean City, MD and at Lake Sheridan. He was an outdoorsman and enjoyed boating, skiing and tennis.
Charles was also an avid reader and was especially fond of learning and teaching.
Surviving in addition to his wife is a daughter: Maureen Owens, Downingtown, a son Chuck, and wife Hillary, Dallas; a brother: Joseph and wife, Cathy, Scranton, four grandsons, James, Kyle and Will Owens and David Lipinski.
The funeral will be Thursday with Mass of Christian burial to be celebrated at 10am in Our Lady of the Snows Church, 301 S. State Street, Clarks Summit. Interment, St. Stanislaus Cemetery, Old Forge. The family will receive relatives and friends on Thursday from 9 -9:45am at the Jennings-Calvey Funeral and Cremation Service, Inc., 111 Colburn Avenue, Clarks Summit, PA 18411.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Abington Community Library, 1200 W. Grove Street, Clarks Summit, PA 18411
