Catherine "Kate" Gerrity, 85, of Scranton, died Thursday, January 31, 2013 in Kindred Hospital Wyoming Valley, Wilkes-Barre.
Born April 15, 1927, in Scranton, she was the daughter of the late George and Grace Woodring Gerrity. Kate was educated in Holy Rosary School and was a 1944 graduate of Scranton Central High School. She was a professional secretary for St. Peter's Cathedral Parish for more than 50 years, and was very proud that this was her only employer.
She was an active volunteer with the Cathedral Capers. Kate was a lifelong resident of North Scranton and a member of Mary, Mother of God Parish at Holy Rosary Church, Scranton. She was an avid golfer and former member of Elmhurst Country Club.
Surviving are two nephews, Joseph W. Maloney and wife, Cindy, Antioch, Tenn., and Timothy Harkins, Dunmore; a niece, Margaret Dana and husband, Ken, Dunmore; a great-nephew, Joseph W. Maloney III and wife, Kristy, Scranton; and a great-niece, Kelly Maloney Juice and husband, Matt, Scranton.
She also was preceded in death by two sisters, Ann Gerrity Harkins and Grace Gerrity Maloney, and a brother, James Gerrity.
The funeral will be Tuesday with Mass at 9:30 a.m. in St. Peter's Cathedral, 315 Wyoming Ave., Scranton, by the Most Rev. James C. Timlin, bishop emeritus of the Diocese of Scranton; Monsignor Joseph G. Quinn and the Rev. Philip A. Altavilla. Interment, Cathedral Cemetery, Scranton. The family will receive relatives and friends Tuesday morning from 9 to 9:30 at the cathedral. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Peter's Cathedral, 315 Wyoming Ave., Scranton, PA 18503.
