Catherine Claire (O'Rourke) Gallagher, 97, of Clarks Summit, died Saturday in Holy Family Residence with her loving family at her bedside. Her loving husband of 56 years was the late Robert Gallagher, who died Sept. 5, 2006.
Born July 29, 1919, in Scranton, she was the daughter of the late Patrick W. and Catherine (Short) O'Rourke. Prior to residing at Holy Family Residence, she lived in Clarks Summit over 55 years. A graduate of Central High School, she attended Lackawanna Business College. She had been employed at St. Pius X Seminary, where she worked as an executive secretary.
Kay was a faithful member of Our Lady of the Snows Parish and its Women's Guild, and served as lector. Her professional skills allowed her to serve as editor of the parish newsletter, The Prism, for several years. She was a lector at Holy Family Residence and served as the editor of its newsletter.
Surviving are one son, Patrick R. Gallagher (Wendelin), Plano, Texas; a daughter, Mary Dupey (Bill), Colorado Springs, Colo.; five grandchildren, Billy Dupey, Erin Dupey (Terry O'Brien), Brian Dupey, Graeme Stocker Dupey and Victoria Gallagher; three great-grandchildren, Kylie, Kieran and Kolby O'Brien; and nieces, nephews and dear friends.
She was also preceded in death by a sister, Patricia Kretschmer; and a brother, Frank O'Rourke.
The funeral will be Saturday from Holy Family Residence, 2500 Adams Ave., Scranton, with Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. to be celebrated by the Rev. E. Francis Kelly. Interment, Cathedral Cemetery.
The family will receive relatives and friends Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. at Holy Family Residence. Memorial contributions may be made to Little Sisters of the Poor, Holy Family Residence, 2500 Adams Ave., Scranton, PA 18509.
