Carol Glaser VanBacker of Clarks Green passed away on Aug. 31, 2014.
Daughter of the late George and Eva Cohen Glaser, Mrs. VanBacker was born in Scranton, and had resided in Clarks Green since 1955.
Mrs. VanBacker was a graduate of Hood College, Frederick, Md., with a Bachelor of Arts degree in history and political science. She received her master's degree in English from the University of Scranton and continued furthering her studies in both degree fields, pursuing a Ph.D.
Mrs. VanBacker was an adjunct teacher for the Abington Heights School District, where she also served as the faculty adviser for the senior class yearbook, and was a private tutor for both high school and college students. Mrs. VanBacker was a member of the Junior League of Scranton and was involved in volunteer work for many service organizations. She had served on the Clarks Green Zoning Board, and had been Republican committeewoman for Clarks Green. She was a volunteer for Abington Community Forum and Waverly Community House Arts and Antiques Shows. She also was a board member with the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
She was a member of the Clarks Green Cemetery Association board and Church of the Epiphany in Glenburn, where she was also a lector, and through many years served on various committees.
Surviving are her children, a son, Topper; and two daughters, Gretchen and Lesley; a sister, Margery Feinstein; and two grandchildren.
The funeral was held with services by Fr. Daniel Jones, retired Episcopal rector. Interment, Clarks Green Cemetery.
