Grief Resources

The death of someone we care about can be one of the most difficult experiences of life. Words seem inadequate to describe how painful the grief we feel can be. It is often much more challenging than we expect and than others seem to think.

VNA Hospice offers a variety of Grief/Bereavement Support Groups we trust will meet your individual needs. During this time of transition, acceptance and healing VNA Hospice is here to help. Joining them for this type of support group is a way to meet others who truly understand. ALL GROUPS MEET AT: VNA Hospice and Home Health, 301 Delaware Avenue, Olyphant, PA 18447.

Bereavement Support Group

This more traditional group assists participants in learning to cope with the new challenges facing them as they grieve. Expressing emotions and feelings in a non-judgmental, safe environment often helps us work towards healing. Through conversation, education and encouragement, VNA Hospice walks with you through this life changing experience. The group is facilitated by their professional counselors and meets on the 3rd Thursday of each month from 6:00-8:00 PM and 2nd Wednesday of each month from 12:30-2:00pm.

Knitting and Crocheting Group

Beginners and experienced join together every Monday from 1:30-3:00 pm. With instructors on hand, you will knit and crochet items for preemies which are donated hospitals in Lackawanna and Luzerne counties. The group decided to produce "throws" for dialysis patients who experience fluctuation on body temperature while receiving treatment and hats, mittens, & scarfs for our homeless community. They ask that you bring your own knitting needles and crocheting hooks. Patterns and instruction provided.

Fisherman Knot Rosary & Sleeping Bag Project

Donating 3000+ rosaries thus far, this group meets every Tuesday from 1-2:30pm. VNA provides the twine needed to produce these lovely, soft rosary that are then donated to skilled nursing facilities, personal care homes and VA Hospital in Wilkes-Barre. VNA does not charge a fee as each rosary is donated with love and prayers. Also made are sleeping bags for the homeless community at this date/time. This project had its start in Hop Bottom, PA and involves easy sewing with needle and thread. Sometimes known as "Crazy Quilts" this project benefits many all year.
